"AFRO" Association of African American Residents

"Here, as in the previous article, it is not a question of philanthropy, but of law. Hospitality means the right of a foreigner not to be treated in a hostile manner merely because he has arrived in the territory of another".

The Art of Migration. Visitor's Rights

Immanuel Kant, On Perpetual Peace (1975)

Since 1994, we have been working in Alava to build a more inclusive and supportive society, supporting the socio-cultural and employment integration of migrants and people in vulnerable situations. We believe in respect, diversity and equal opportunities for all.

Our office is an open space for support and meeting, where we offer essential services such as food distribution, clothing, educational programmes and accompaniment in integration processes. Through solidarity and cooperation, we continue to strengthen support networks and promote the integral development of our community.

Together, we build a fairer and more equitable future.

Our projects

The association has actively worked in different programmes to strengthen integration, social support and solidarity. Through the accompaniment of families, attention to people in vulnerable situations and the promotion of volunteering, a significant impact has been achieved in the community. These initiatives have improved the quality of life of many people, fostered social participation and strengthened ties between different groups, promoting a more inclusive and supportive environment.

Aukerak Suspertzen Programme

The Aukerak Suspertzen programme provides school support to socially disadvantaged immigrant children and young people in order to reduce inequalities in education and guarantee equal access to education. Through face-to-face and online academic reinforcement, workshops for families and the provision of devices and connectivity, the programme not only promotes learning, but also fosters social integration and equal opportunities from childhood onwards.

Harrera-Etorkizun Programme

The Harrera-Etorkizun programme offers temporary and normalised shelter to immigrants in a situation of vulnerability who cannot access municipal resources. It provides accommodation, food, health and legal assistance, job orientation and language learning. In addition, it carries out essential administrative procedures, medical accompaniment and training for labour integration. It also promotes leisure, coexistence and social integration activities, with the aim of fostering autonomy and improving the opportunities of those who participate in the programme.
