OTHER PROJECTS

Leisure activities and summer camps for immigrant children, young people and adults (since 1996)

The Leisure Programme, run by volunteers, is generally aimed at children from different backgrounds; it offers a range of activities, helping them to discover the city’s resources and promoting intercultural understanding across all areas. Is an activity in which volunteers spend their free time with migrant families; it promotes intercultural understanding and provides a space where children from families of different backgrounds can interact and internalise values of camaraderie and solidarity. This activity uses play to reinforce social skills, rules, discipline and teamwork.

Short Story Competition

The International Short Story Competition is a platform for giving a voice to stories about migration and loss. With entries from various countries and stories written in Basque or Spanish, the competition continues to reflect the value of memory, refuge and cultural diversity.

Elkarrekin Programme

The “Elkarrekin” project aims to strengthen and enrich the identity of children from diverse cultural backgrounds, who often find it more difficult to understand the cultural duality they face. In the case of the children of immigrants born in the Basque Autonomous Community, they have not experienced the grief associated with migration, but find themselves caught between two cultures. They belong to a new generation that was born and raised here, yet whose parents come from elsewhere. We are committed to fostering communication and exchange, encouraging the development of their own identity in a positive way, based on equality and respect for difference.

Literacy

Since 2000, “Afro” has been running beginner-level Spanish and literacy classes in various venues. This programme is aimed at adults. However, on some occasions, we have received referrals for minors in care. A good understanding and command of the language is essential for the social integration of migrants; that is why we are committed to a comprehensive literacy programme that enables them to progress in their social integration.

Photography competition

We are organising a mobile photography workshop for anyone wishing to learn basic techniques and express themselves through their images. No prior experience is necessary; participants will explore key concepts and take part in practical sessions outdoors. You are also invited to take part in the Mobile Photography Competition, a platform for bringing hidden realities to light through art.

Register of communication facilitators

At the association, we have communication facilitators – people who assist those who come to us seeking support, particularly when there are language or cultural barriers – by helping with basic administrative tasks.
